Bradford GCSE Tutoring That Actually Helped Me

So basically my mum was proper stressed about my GCSEs, yeah. I go to Dixons Trinity and everyone's always chatting about targets and predicted grades. I was just like, whatever. But then my mocks came back and I got a 4 in maths. Which is pants.

My mum started looking for tutors and found this one from India for £8 an hour, which sounded well dodgy. Like, who charges £8 for tutoring? That’s less than a meal deal. But apparently they do it online from India so it’s cheaper or something.

First session I was like, this is gonna be awkward. Some random person from another country teaching me maths through a screen. But it was actually alright? The tutor knew loads about Edexcel, which is what we do at school. Like he knew exactly which topics come up in the exam and which ones are worth learning properly.

Thing is, Bradford schools are pretty strict. Bradford Grammar wants like 7s and 8s if you wanna get into their sixth form. Even the state schools now are pushing everyone to get at least 6s. My mate at Carlton Bolling says they get homework every single night, which sounds brutal.

So the online tutoring helped with stuff I didn’t get in class. Like when Miss explains something, there’s 30 people in the room and if you don’t get it the first time, you’re basically stuck. But with the tutor I could just ask again and they’d explain it in different ways until I got it.

The time difference is actually decent. They do evening sessions ‘cause it’s like midnight for them in India but 6pm for us. So I just do it after tea before I go on my Xbox.

My dad’s Pakistani so there’s extra pressure from family. My cousin Zain got all 8s and 9s last year and now everyone goes on about him constantly. Like, well done Zain but also chill out yeah. Aunties keep asking how my mocks went and I’m just like “yeah good thanks” even when they weren’t.

The tutor gets that tho ‘cause they’re Indian so they understand the whole family thing. Not in a weird way, just like they know what it’s like when your whole family’s watching your grades.

After like 3 months I went from a 4 to a 6 in maths. My mum actually cried, which was kinda embarrassing but also kinda sweet. Now I’m predicted a 7 which is mad.

Cost is £8 per hour. My mum looked at Bradford tutors and they wanted like £35-40 which is loads. Over a year that’s like over a grand. We don’t have that kind of money lying around so the £8 one made sense.

Does it work? Yeah mostly. You still have to actually do the work tho. Like if you just turn up and don’t pay attention or do the homework between sessions then obviously it won’t help. But if you actually try then it does work.

My friend from Beckfoot Academy uses them too now and she went up two grades in science. Her mum told my mum about it, which is how these things spread I guess.

You can try it for like £5 first which is basically nothing. If you don’t like it then whatever, you lost a fiver. But it might help.

That’s basically it. My maths is better now and my mum’s not stressing as much. Still got actual my GCSEs in May tho so wish me luck.
